About Me and My Approach to Counselling

About Me

As a counsellor, I have gained my experience working within the NHS IAPT service, Secondary Schools, and online platforms such as Headstrong and BetterHelp as well as my private practice, Crossfield Counselling where I have had the privilege of being with many individuals on their journey to self-awareness and discovery. I have supported clients through anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, loss and grief, relationship issues, low self-esteem & confidence, life transitions and patterns of behaviour - all while looking at gaining healthy coping mechanisms to find a way to take the reigns of their life.

I have also worked in customer service for 10+ years. This gave me the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life and to understand that no two people are the same, this became even more apparent when I started my role as a teaching assistant in a SEN primary school and needed to learn new skills to communicate with young people who couldn't use words to express how they were feeling, this is then what lead me to train as a counsellor.

My Approach

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and have worked with both adults and teenagers and have tailored my approach depending on individual needs, which involves pulling from different theories. With that being said, I mainly work with a Person-Centered approach, meaning that I create a safe, empathetic, non-judgmental space for clients to explore their behaviours, feelings, and thoughts all at their own pace. However, if I feel they may need some guidance, I will lean on different approaches such as CBT, Psychodynamic and mindfulness techniques.
